Decorating With Outdoor Rustic Furniture
If you like a campy look, then outdoor rustic furniture might be perfect for your garden or patio.
You can buy furniture made out of logs for a real woodsy look, or some sleek cedar furniture for more of a spa look. If you are handy, you can even buy plans to make your own rustic cedar furniture, including a garden arch and swing.
When purchasing outdoor rustic furniture, make sure you buy good quality furniture that is solidly constructed. You should protect your furniture by applying a layer of ultraviolet blocking varnish - look for marine varnish to accomplish this.
Each year, you should inspect the furniture for dirt, stains, mold and rot and treat before putting away for the season. If you leave your furniture outside all year, you should cover them with a good quality furniture cover when they are not in daily use.
When decorating with rustic outdoor furniture, you should set up your patio or garden to have a lodge or woodsy feel. Put a couple of campy chairs side by side in different areas or have them face themselves in a seating arrangement of sorts. Use small rustic tables, or benches with build in tables to give a lodge vacation feel. Think about using a rustic picnic table for your eating area. A campy swing and arbor can complete the look.
Some accessories that might go good with your rustic outdoor furniture include plain and simple garden adornments. Nothing to fancy here - maybe a little windmill and some cast iron or cement garden frogs or other creatures. A river with a wooden bridge might be a nice touch if you have the room - if you don't have water, make a river of rocks by digging a shallow trench and laying down river rock all along the inside.
Of course you will want to attract wildlife, so fill the area with bird feeders and bird baths to attract lots of life.
