Iron Garden Arbor
An iron garden arbor is a perfect addition to any Victorian style garden.
Arbors stand outside all year long and must be able to withstand the elements. They need to be made from a material that can take the blazing sun, driving rain and even snow. Iron is a sturdy material that will not rot. You may need to keep an eye on the rusting and use naval jelly and non rust paint to prevent or repair any rusty spots.
Your iron garden arbor can be a host to any number of beautiful climbing plants as well as a great architectural focal point. You can train a beautiful trumpet vine to climb your arbor and perhaps even attract hummingbirds.
How about a heavenly scented honeysuckle or the traditional climbing roses? When deciding what flowers to use, you should first know where the arbor will be placed as this may dictate the kind of flower you can use. Be aware of whether it is in full sun, partial sun or shade and buy a climbing flower that will flourish in that type of environment.
When placing your iron garden arbor in your yard or garden, you want to have it in a strategic spot where it is a focal point but not out of place. An arbor smack in the middle of the yard might look a bit odd. It can look great as an entry way into the garden - set it on either side of the pathway so that your visitors walk under it. If your arbor has a seat in it, you might want to put it in the garden, perhaps near a pond or adjacent to the corner of your house – anywhere where it will be pleasing for you to sit. Don’t forget that your arbor can be a great place to take photos for proms and other special occasions such as weddings so you may want to make sure the backdrop is as pleasing as the arbor. Take care in picking the perfect spot since once your flowers are planted and start climbing you will not want to move it!
