Garden Accessories

Garden accessories can add those personal touches to your garden, much like accessories add a personal touch to your home.
Of course, you don't want to overpower the flowers with windmills and shiny balls, but a few little decorations here and there can add a cute touch.

One of my favorite accessories is a water feature or garden fountain. If your garden is big enough, you can have a large basin or statuary with a higher portion that water spills down from. Some smaller gardens can benefit from a wall fountain that sits compactly on the wall with it's own spout and basin. Both provide that relaxing sound of running water.

Statuary are one of the garden accessories that can be a reflection of your personality. You can get them in any form, so if you like frogs, you can have a collection of frogs, if you like bunnies a collection of little bunnies placed around the garden in strategic spots might do. If you have a formal garden, a couple of large Greek style statues might look nice. It doesn't have to be overwhelming, you can get smaller statues and place them peeking out from under shrubs and inside planters for some added interest.

Gazing balls are great for a focal point in a garden, you can mount them on cement stands in traditional manner, or buy funky styles intertwined with copper pipes for a more modern look. They make all kinds of funky copper pieces with little reflective glass in them that you can stick in your garden for a little whimsy.

Whirligigs are another garden accessory that you may want to include depending on your taste. Some people like to have tons of them around and others find them to be annoying so you’ll have to decorate with them to suit your own taste. Just please avoid those little wooden statues of people bending over!

Garden stones are a nice accessory that you can even personalize. You can get stepping stones that can guide your visitors along a path, and even have words, scenes or objects painted on the stones. Mosaic stones with pieces of broken china cemented in in a pattern are becoming quite popular. If you don't have room for a full path, you can place a stone here and there for interest.
