Attract Birds With Fountain Bird Baths
Fountain bird baths provide birds with a clean supply of water and a drip or mist that they love.
Birds need clean water to survive and they love to bath in a shallow bath or sit under a mist or drip. Putting a bird bath in your yard can help attract twice as many birds to your garden - you may even attract birds that wouldn't normally come to the bird feeder and you might never see otherwise!
In order to attract birds, fountain bird baths need to be a bit more subtle than a raging fountain! You can get a delicate mister or dripper that will provide a tantalizing spray or mist that birds will love.

The key to making fountain bird baths attractive and useful to birds is to make sure the bath is no deeper than 2 to 3". A gently sloping bowl is perfect for your birds as they like to stand in the water but not be submerged. If you already have a bird bath and it is deeper than that, you can consider placing something on the bottom (a saucer from a planter or some river rocks?) just make sure it is nothing that the birds can slip on or get trapped in.
Another aspect to have a successful fountain bird bath is to keep it clean. You should hose it out every day. A yearly cleaning is a good idea, you can use soap and water and a scrub pad just make sure you rinse it thoroughly. I wouldn't use any harsh chemicals for fear that small traces would remain and harm the birds. You can buy a special bird bath cleaner at your bird supply store.
Fountain bird baths can be important to your backyard birds winter survival. Birds need fresh water for drinking as well as bathing and there is precious short supply in winter when everything is frozen. You can buy a heater or electric heated bird bath that heats up and give your birds fresh water all winter long.
