Garden Pest Control
One of the more mundane aspects of gardening is pest control. Sure, it's fun to grow beautiful flowers and wash fruits and vegetables but when you garden becomes overrun with pass it can turn from fun to frustrating and no time.
Pest control is a tricky subject as it must be done with safety in mind. You must consider the embodiment before putting anything on your flowers and especially in vegetables. Be cognizant of the plants humans and animals around your garden before applying any kind of pest control. If you have an organic vegetable garden in particular, you need to be careful about what you put on your plants as the main purpose of organic gardening will be defeated if your vegetables become tainted with chemicals.
Here's some tips that can make pest control more friendly and less damaging for the long-term.
1. Use manual labor. You can pick pests and grubs off of your vegetables and plants by hand. Of course this is a labor-intensive process but many people just love puttering around in the garden. You can also create traps in areas so that pests cannot get onto your plants. Eliminate any place where pests like to hide such as deer places or rocks which are great hiding places for snails.
2. Biological pest control. You can let nature take care of some of your pest control by encouraging insects that eat pests to come to your garden. Dragonflies and green lace wings eat 80 feds and other insects which can attack your plants. To attract them be sure to have a small birdbath or shallow dish of water in the garden. To guard against caterpillars you might try a bacterial insecticide such as B. thuringiensis.
3. Home recipes for pest control. In order to avoid chemical pest control you might try employing some safer pest control made from ingredients that you probably have right in your kitchen. His couple of recipes you might try using.
For Green Aphids & Mites:
Makes 1 cup of vegetable oil with one tablespoon liquid soap. Take 1 teaspoon of this solution and makes in 1 cup of water. Spray on mites and aphids.
Chemical pest control should only be used as a last resort. If you do have to turn to chemicals make sure that they are made specifically for the past that you are trying to get rid of. Always be mindful of the environment when using any chemicals and keep pets away from these areas.
