Adding A Dark Blue Flower To Your Plantings

Adding the Dark Blue Flower to your yard can be a wonderful way to add color to your garden. .

Flowers in every shade of blue to purple are available in perennial and annual form. You can plant all blue or purple plants in a cluster in one section of your garden for a unique effect.

When planting your Dark Blue Flower make sure you pay attention to the instructions for their planting, care and maintenance. It is important to buy plants that are appropriate for the area in which they will be planted – not all flowers will grow in the full sun. A sun loving plant that is expected to grow in the shade will only turn out to be a disappointment.

During the growing season, take care to water and fertilize your Dark Blue Flower according to the instructions that came with the flower and you will be rewarded with big luscious blooms. Don’t forget to pinch off the dead flowers and care for perennials at the end of the season as recommended.

Other things to consider when planting your Dark Blue Flower plant include:

  • Blooming Season – plant flowers in your garden with staggered blooming season so that you have continuous blooms all year long.
  • Size – make sure you plant the taller plants in the back so they don’t obscure the view of the shorter growing flowers.

Consider planting these other blue and purple flowers:

Bachelors Button - This has bright blue thistle like blossoms and will grow to 24". It shows its blooms in late summer to early fall - cut down after first bloom for another bloom later in the season. Plant in the full sunlight.

Scabiosa - Butterfly Blue - This bushy perennial is more of a lavender blue perennial plant with 2" flower petals that bloom from June to October. Plant in the full sunlight - deadheading after first bloom will encourage repeat sports. This flower attracts the most fabulous creatures - butterflies and hummingbirds.

Corydalis, Blue Panda - This plant produces fragrant stringy sky blue flowers. It blooms in late spring, and sometimes again in fall. Can grow to 12” and likes partial shade with a rich soil.

Bellflower - Enjoy bright violet blue blooms all summer with this plant that grows to 30” tall. Can grow in partial shade or full sun and likes well drained soil.

Forget Me Nots - This low growing perennial has clusters of tiny blue flowers amid dark green foliage. It grows to about 6” and makes a great border plant that flowers from early spring to early summer. Prefers partial shade with a well drained soil.
